Former Bitmain CFO Launches $1 Billion BNB Treasury Vehicle Backed by YZi Labs

B Strategy, a newly formed investment company led by former Bitmain CFO Max Hua, announced Monday its plans to raise $1 billion for a U.S.-listed corporate treasury focused exclusively on Binance Coin (BNB), marking the first major institutional treasury play in the altcoin space.

The initiative, backed by YZi Labs (formerly Binance Labs), represents a significant evolution in corporate cryptocurrency adoption, extending the treasury model popularized by MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin holdings to the world’s fourth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.

Strategic Leadership and Vision

The company brings together heavyweight crypto veterans, with Max Hua at the helm alongside Metalpha co-founders Ryan Fang and Kevin Li. Their collective experience spans major crypto infrastructure companies and institutional investment vehicles, positioning B Strategy as what executives describe as “the Berkshire Hathaway of the BNB ecosystem.”

“The BNB ecosystem processes 12.5 million transactions daily with over 235 million unique addresses,” said Max Hua in a statement announcing the initiative. “Yet institutional investment vehicles for BNB remain virtually non-existent. We’re changing that narrative.”

The timing appears strategic, as BNB currently trades at $587, showing resilience amid broader crypto market volatility. The ecosystem’s transaction volume has grown 47% year-over-year, according to BSCScan data, while institutional interest in altcoin exposure beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum continues to accelerate.

Ambitious Expansion Plans

B Strategy’s roadmap extends beyond simple BNB accumulation. The company has outlined plans for strategic acquisitions in key Asian markets, specifically targeting opportunities in Japan and Hong Kong where regulatory frameworks for crypto corporates have recently clarified.

The $1 billion target, while ambitious, reflects growing institutional appetite for diversified crypto treasury strategies. According to company filings, B Strategy plans to leverage both equity raises and debt instruments to build its BNB position, similar to MicroStrategy’s convertible bond strategy that has accumulated over 226,500 Bitcoin.

“We’re not just buying and holding,” explained Ryan Fang, co-founder and chief investment officer. “We’re building strategic partnerships within the BNB ecosystem, from DeFi protocols to gaming platforms, creating value beyond simple price appreciation.”

Market Impact and Industry Implications

The announcement has already sparked discussions about whether other major cryptocurrencies will see similar treasury vehicles emerge. Solana, Cardano, and Avalanche communities have long advocated for institutional-grade investment products that go beyond traditional ETF structures.

YZi Labs’ backing adds significant credibility to the venture. As the venture capital and incubation arm of the Binance ecosystem, YZi Labs has deployed over $10 billion across 250+ portfolio companies, making it one of crypto’s most influential investment entities.

“This represents a maturation of the altcoin investment thesis,” noted James Chen, head of crypto research at Hong Kong-based Redstone Capital. “When former executives from companies like Bitmain start building billion-dollar vehicles for specific ecosystems, it signals institutional confidence in multi-chain futures.”

Regulatory Navigation

B Strategy plans to list on a major U.S. exchange, though specific details remain undisclosed. The company is working with leading compliance firms to ensure regulatory alignment across multiple jurisdictions, particularly given the complex relationship between U.S. securities laws and cryptocurrency classifications.

The structure mirrors successful precedents set by publicly traded crypto treasury companies, providing institutional investors with regulated exposure to BNB without direct custody requirements. This approach has proven particularly attractive to pension funds and endowments seeking crypto allocation within traditional investment frameworks.

Looking Ahead

With the fundraising process now underway, B Strategy expects to close initial capital commitments by Q4 2025. The company’s success could catalyze similar initiatives across other major cryptocurrency ecosystems, potentially reshaping how institutions approach altcoin investments.

As corporate crypto treasuries evolve beyond Bitcoin, B Strategy’s billion-dollar ambition represents either the beginning of a new institutional wave or an ambitious experiment in altcoin adoption. Either way, the BNB ecosystem just gained a powerful new advocate with deep pockets and proven execution capabilities.
